Stressed? Bake a cake!

So, as Krissa says, "You're prioritizing your stresses! :-) OCD much? heh." And YES! Stress prioritizing is SO helpful.

Forexample. The things that I have been stressing about are pointless. They are things that I cannot deal with until I am in the UK, see? Schools and banking and such. Lying awake at night worrying about them is counter-productive, no? So, today, I went to Sharon's to borrow some of HER stress: Wedding Decoration Stress, a wonderfully high-on-the-scale-of-stressful-things stress. And, we solved all of the wedding decorating problems of the world, and IT WAS SO THERAPEUTIC! Things were crossed off of lists, and the fact that they weren't MY lists didn't matter one bit!

In this trend, we agreed that *I* would be in charge of making and frosting the wedding cake! Thereby giving me something tangible to stress about and specific step-by-step list items to cross off. "Get cream cheese" check! "Find large cake pan" check!

Of course, I've never made a decorated cake before... Oh wait, there was the one that was going to be a spaceship but it kinda bubbled up in the centre and cracked, and then the frosting melted and flowed down it.... but then it looked so much like a volcano that we spooned some cherry pie stuff into the cracked top, renamed it "volcano cake", and it was a HUGE success! So there you go! So far I have had 100% success with cake decorating!!! Never fear, my friend! You can rest assured that your wedding cake is in excellent hands.

hmmm..a volcano cake...why not? After all we have lighthouse wedding invitations..it will go with the whole phallic theme! hee hee. It will be PERFECT! Aren't I the most wonderful friend for relieving your stress by giving you something else to stress over that you can actually DO something about? hehe

That? Sounds like the perfect solution to stress. Add more things to stress over, but only the kind that you can effectively overcome. Thus replacing your stress with feelings of accomplishment! How wonderful! There's always tons of things to do that if you write them down and cross them off, i.e. make coffee, go get the morning paper, read paper, refill coffee cup, drink coffee, go potty, etc.
You could even work your way around to make up bed and do laundry! ;-)

Hey I write lists al the time, just to have something to cross off! It makes me feel like I achieve something!

Now if you are worried about doing one BIG cake, why not lots of little cakes? You can vary what kind of cakes they are that way too! Some could be chocolate, some vanilla, some marble, some fruit, etc, etc.

And then put the icing on them (you can even get the boys to help with this part!) or leave some plain. Butter icing is soooo easy to make and always looks brill!

Stack them up on high in a arty sort of way! And VOLA! One stressless cake or cakes!

Ailis, that is not NEARLY stressful enough! We have a brilliant plan. Will post pictures of completed cake.

Krissa, I am totally adding "Make bed, Go to potty" to my list!

Oh man! Good luck!
I? I cannot decorate cakes. Everyone here knows that if it's ugly I made it, but it'll taste fine.

Jello.

A portrait of the happy couple using different coloured cubes of jello and done in the impressionistic style.

Now there's a challenge for the artist in both of you!

Oh yeah and the chickens...
instead of the bride throwing a bouquet, get all those young maidens to catch a chicken and throw it on the grill. Guaranteed the lads will be queueing up. After all, the way to a man's heart is through his belly ;)

Total win win situation all around!

I wanna see pics! Have a blast - definitely not making it down to see you before we leave - my list is getting longer and longer and I'm never gonna get out of this office. Grrr! SO we will just have to link up in London :) and walk through a park, have a sarnie picnic - if only the weather would cooperate - fingers crossed. xoxo

our cake was done by my great friend and we chose a simple cake wtih a nature theme (of course)...so the idea was to decorate with small cones, flowers, and anything from nature. by the time we were ready to cut the cake the kids had added all kinds of things from the grounds where we were celebrating. of course, sharon might end up with chicken feathers =(...

I actually really like the jello cubes idea! Sort of a cubist / mosaic idea. Perhaps we should have that for our wedding cake! Nan... you might be commissioned to make another cake! Hehee...

Thanks for good wishes and suggestions all. Hmm...Jello..we could have fun throwing that around!

All chickens have to be caught and dispatched before the wedding. My bro in law to be is MORBIDLY afraid of chickens. If he sees even one tail feather he will hightail it back to north of the lighthouse probably never to be seen or heard from again.

I know the cake is going to be amazing because it will be made with loads of love and little fingers probably stuck in it to test if it tastes good enough. Won't be surprised if like Kelly we find some extra trimmings on it (can anyone say tarantula?) It will be brilliant! I am so excited!

Y'all have me in hysterics here!

Bearing our theme in mind, I think that Jello might be a little TOO... ahhh... pornographic!

KYAH KYAH KYAH...Nan now you have ME cracking up!! I never even thought of the two together! Oh lord..that would be hysterical. I think that image is going to be stuck in my mind now. Maybe we could use mini ones as the party favours! :-P
